How to lose weight without exercise
My school friends have seen me to be a
plumpy girl. Now when they see me it is a shock for them. And all these have
happened without gym, without any exercise; I did neither cycling nor swimming
for these.
Well before revealing the secrets let me give a brief description of
myself.
I come from a typical bengali family (ghoti or pure Indian to be specific) where sugar is an essential part of every recipe that is prepared at home, where sweets (which includes different types of sweets/ misti and misti doi or sweet curd) is an indispensable part of refrigerator. On almost every sunday the breakfast consists of oil dripped luchi, equally oily begun vaja along with alur dom and of course jalebi, rasgolla and gulab jamun, and (my favorite) rasomalai and laddu :D. Chutney and payesh will be the part of dessert throughout the year, of course the ingredients vary. During summer it would be aamer or jolpai er chutney and during winter the payesh would be of nolen gur. Then different types of juices or sorbot during summer- starting from beler sorbot to michrir sorbot. And while during rainy season sorse ilish is the trend during winter kochi pathar jol, hinger kochuri will be in the main course on every alternate days. For bengalis snacks means samosa and misti, whenever you visit any Bong family they will greet you with sweets, and since guests are treated as Gods ("Atithi narayan") so they will continue to feed you with sweets till you reach the vomiting stage. Another typical Bong thing is in almost every recipe that they cook, alu or potato is a must. Starting from alu vate (boiled smashed potatoes mixed with salt and onion), to fried alu, to alur dum, biriyanir alu, mangser joler alu, macher jol er alu- you name it we have it. So after consuming so much fat for so many years what can you expect except that you struggle to fit in an L size dress and look at the M size dresses and wish someday you fit in that size. As soon as you come out of the shop the moment you see a roll shop or fuchka stall you forget everything and think of nothing else except what should you eat-chicken/ egg/ or egg chicken roll. Well this is not to put salt on the burn but this is something all Bongs can relate to.Another bad habit which most of us have is the habit of time pass eating- which means since I do not have anything else to do, let me grab a chocolate or a biscuit or chips or ice cream. Then comes the soft drinks without which dinner is not complete when we hop in a restaurant as the soft drink is less costly as compared to a mocktail or fruit juice and it do serve the purpose- quenching thirst.
I think it was more than a brief introduction.
Let me tell you how did I lose weight. I went to south India for 2 years where I lost weight. You will find most of the south Indian people are thin. This is only because of their food habit- sugar less and potato less food. Change of diet helped me in losing weight but after I returned back to my home town even though my Mom tries hard to make me chubby, I ensure that I do not have to struggle to fit into size L. So things which I do, so that I fit comfortably size S and sometimes even in size XS (*touchwood*) are:
1. I eat 4 times a day strictly, when I say 4 times I actually mean it. No time pass food. No fried food which includes all kinds of vajas or fried things like bejun vaja, potol vaja; instead of fried things I tend to eat boiled vegetables. I do not eat junk food (includes all kinds of rolls, samosas, moghlai parathas).
2. Perhaps I am the only girl on this planet who doesnt like chocolate, and it acts as a boon. I neither drink tea nor coffee, which means I do not intake sugar at regular basis.
3. Potato(includes chips, french fries), sweets (includes chutney, payes, any kind of sweet dishes), sugar, nuts, cheese, cream(incldes cream of the pastries) are strictly no no for me. Though I love all of these, but still I refrain myself from eating these. How? Well, whenever I see them I see them as fat balls and think about all those stylist clothes which I want to wear, which are slim fit.
4. I refrain myself from even touching ghee, butter.
So, the bottom line is to control the impulses and channelize the impulse to other things. For example- since we girls love to shop, in order to control the impulse eating we can do impulse shopping (clothes or accessories or shoes, or all those cute pink colored things to decorate our rooms), or can talk for hours over phone (a very good distraction). Most of us tend to indulge ourselves in satisfying our every day impulse and tend to be conscious of the diet during parties. If we reverse the order then things will become more effective.
But all these doesnt mean I do not eat, once in a week I eat outside, and once in a fortnight I eat biriyani and whenever I am invited to any dinner or lunch parties I forget about diet and literally dig into huge pile of chicken. After all a Bengali can never say no to food!

And once a while I eat all these (at the same time :D )to maintain weight. So, you see life is not that sad if you follow a strict diet.
Very nicely written Twisa..appreciate it!:)
